A blaze erupted on the second floor of the apartment block in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in the early hours of the morning before smoke quickly spread up the nine-storey building.

Residents had called the fire service, but Natalya and her seven-year-old daughter Vera were left trapped inside.

However, with the building already ablaze and smoke entering the building through windows and the ventilation system, Natalya was unable to get herself or her daughter to safety.

Firefighters weren’t able to reach the mother and daughter before they died.
