Police have seized a VW Golf on the M62 after spotting it travelling at 90mph in the snow. 

When officers pulled over the car they discovered it had not been taxed since September 2020 and seized the vehicle. 

When questioning the driver and the two passengers they discovered they were from three different households and were in breach of Covid-19 regulations. 

West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit seized this VW Golf on the M62 after stopping the car because it had no road tax. The car was travelling at 90mph before it was pulled over. Police also fined the driver and two passengers for breaching Covid-19 regulations because they were from three 

The trio told officers they were heading from Manchester to West Yorkshire to buy a takeaway meal.

In Brixham, Devon, police stopped a car registered to Wolverhampton and issued the driver and passenger with Covid-19 fines for breaking lockdown rules. 

While talking to the driver, one of the officers noticed the smell of alcohol from his breath. 

The driver failed a subsequent roadside breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. 

He now faces a driving ban.  

According to the Government’s website, you must not leave, or be outside of your home except where necessary. 

You may leave the home to:

  • shop for basic necessities, for you or a vulnerable person
  • go to work, or provide voluntary or charitable services, if you cannot
  • reasonably do so from home
  • exercise with your household (or support bubble) or one other person,
  • this should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel
  • outside your local area.
  • meet your support bubble or childcare bubble where necessary, but only if you are legally permitted to form one
  • seek medical assistance or avoid injury, illness or risk of harm (including domestic abuse)
  • attend education or childcare – for those eligible
  • If you do leave home for a permitted reason, you should always stay local – unless it is necessary to go further, for example to go to work. Stay local means stay in the village, town, or part of the city where you live.

Warwickshire Police issued one man with a £200 fine after he was caught travelling 12 miles from home to play Pokemon. 

Writing on the force Facebook page, PC Stephen Jones said: ‘Travelling from Bedworth to Kenilworth in the late evening to “Pokemon Hunt” is not particularly local and it definitely isn’t essential.

‘I posted last night that we will engage and explain where we can but we will enforce blatant breaches of the lockdown and this is exactly what happened this evening.

‘A £200.00 fine has been issued to an adult male.’
