Inside Matt Damon’s privately funded Australian quarantine with family

Inside Matt Damon’s ‘privately funded’ Australian quarantine with his wife and daughters – as the Hollywood star joins the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder

Matt Damon landed in Australia with his family on Saturday, and has already begun his mandatory 14-day quarantine as he prepares to film Thor: Love and Thunder in the coming weeks.

And while many visiting stars have kept quiet about the quarantine process, Matt’s immigration lawyer has explained every detail of the Hollywood star’s move Down Under.

Rebekah O’Sullivan said the Good Will Hunting star, 50, had ‘privately arranged and funded’ his two-week isolation with his wife and children so as not to create ‘any burden to the Australian taxpayer whatsoever’.

Ms O’Sullivan added that Matt’s entry has not impacted or reduced ‘the number of spaces for Australians overseas waiting to return home’.

Matt will live in Australia during the film’s production, alongside his wife, Luciana Barroso, and their children, Isabella, 14, Gia, 12, and Stella, 10.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the family had initially quarantined for two weeks in a ski lodge in America, and were tested for Covid-19 every three days.

They then arrived in Australia via private jet and moved into a rented house, where they are paying for their own private security, police monitoring, hospital-grade cleaning, staff, meals and regular medical checks.

CEO of Concierge Doctors Dr Zac Turner said: ‘The family will be entirely segregated for the period of their quarantine and will participate in standardised testing and monitoring, in full compliance with current NSW Government requirements.’

Dr Turner added that NSW Police will be present to ensure quarantine is enforced.

It’s unclear who much it’s costing Matt and his family to self-isolate in luxury, but fellow Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg reportedly spent $2,500 a night to privately quarantine at a five-star retreat in Byron Bay when he flew into Australia last month.

Matt recently said he was excited to be staying in Australia as he joins the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale.

‘I’m so excited that my family and I will be able to call Australia home for the next few months,’ he said.

‘Australian film crews are world renowned for their professionalism and are a joy to work with so the 14 days of quarantine will be well worth it.’
