Why Jules Robinson and Cam Merchant ‘REFUSED to attend the MAFS reunion after being offered $60,000’

Married At First Sight’s fans won’t see the show’s biggest success story on the upcoming reunion series.

New parents Jules Robinson and Cameron Merchant, from the show’s sixth season in 2019, turned down the offer to appear.

According to Woman’s Day, the real reason the couple snubbed the franchise that made them famous was a failure to reach an agreement on their paycheck.

‘They just wanted more cash’: Jules Robinson and Cam Merchant have been accused of ‘refusing to attend the Married At First Sight reunion unless they were paid more than $60,000’ – forcing Nine to find a last-minute replacement when they ‘pulled out’

Jules and Cameron met on season six of Channel Nine’s Married At First Sight, which was filmed in late 2018 to early 2019.

After falling madly in love, they became engaged at the end of the TV experiment.

According to an insider, the lovebirds were offered an eye-watering $60,000 appearance fee to attend the two-part reunion, but insisted they needed more ‘to involve their baby’ – who was just nine weeks at the time.

'Filming is very long and I need to be with him [Oliver]': In December, while filming for the MAFS reunion was taking place, Jules confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that she had declined Nine's invitation to appear, but said it was due to her demanding role as a new mother

‘There were murmurs on set that they just wanted more cash,’ the mystery source told the publication, while an anonymous cast member claimed everyone was told Jules and Cam would be attending.

‘A few of us even brought gifts for Oliver and flowers for Jules because producers insisted they’d be in attendance with “The MAFS baby”. But they just skipped it.’

Producers were instead apparently ‘left scrambling’ to fill their spot last-minute and invited season five star Charlene Perera days before filming began.

In December, while filming for the MAFS reunion was taking place, Jules confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that she had declined Nine’s invitation to appear.

She said she had more pressing things to attend to at the time – namely the couple’s newborn son, Oliver.

‘Filming is very long and I need to be with him [Oliver],’ Jules said.

Jules and Cam have previously been rumoured to have profited of their milestone moments as a couple, having promoted their lavish engagement on Nine, and hosting a TV wedding on the network.

The couple officially tied the knot in November 2019 in a lavish ceremony in Sydney, which was broadcast on a special TV episode of A Current Affair.

In April 2020, the pair announced they were expecting their first child in an exclusive cover story interview with Stellar magazine. They welcomed Oliver on October 3.

When Channel Nine confirmed the cast for the ‘Grand Reunion’ mini-series this month, the only lasting couple from the franchise present were Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli.

Former couple Elizabeth Sobinoff and Seb Guilhaus were together at the time of filming the reunion series in December, but have since announced their separation.

According to Nine, the special will see ‘old flames reunite, friendships formed, and broken ones mended’ as past conflicts resurface.
