NBA player Karl-Anthony Towns was hospitalized after being hit by a drunk driver in Los Angeles.

In a Q&A with fans on Instagram on Thursday the Minnesota Timberwolves player talked about the accident, which he said happened last year, as he reflected on a difficult 12 months during which he lost seven family members to COVID-19.

The 25-year-old athlete credited girlfriend Jordyn Woods for helping him through some of his darkest times, as he said ‘she has been there with me every step of the way’.

Staying strong: Karl-Anthony Towns has revealed he got hit by a drunk driver last year and ended up in hospital in LA

Towns didn’t give too many details of the incident but said it happened before the 2020-21 NBA season kicked off.

He opened up after a fan asked him: ‘How do you stay so strong after overcoming so much?’.

‘My woman has held me down more than the world knows.’ Towns wrote.

‘From my mother and family members dying (1 on her bday in Cabo), getting hit by a drunk driver (was 2pm in the afternoon FYI) in LA this Off-Season and staying with me in the hospital for the night and helping me in rehab, to this stint with COVID she has been there with me every step of the way and stayed ten toes down.

‘My love for her knows no bounds and I would be remiss if I don’t acknowledge the power a good woman can have in your life. Men treat your woman like a Queen so she can treat you like a King.’

Towns also credited his ‘faith’ for keeping him strong while also giving a shout out to his support system.

‘(Family and Friends) have been amazing at keeping me sane and humble throughout my life. My parents and sister showed me how to be a man and to never be ashamed of doing the right thing in this world even when people especially social media make it seem it’s not “cool” to be a man of morals and values.

Towns made things Instagram official with Woods in September after dating for over a year.

In October, the social media personality, who used to be best pals with Kylie Jenner, spoke to Page Six about her beau and how their shared grief over the loss of a parent strengthened their relationship.

Woods said: ‘After his mother passed it brought us a lot closer because I had gone through the loss of a parent as well, and so being that crutch for each other, I guess led to something more and it’s like being with your best friend.’

Towns’ mother died in April aged 58 after being on a ventilator and in a medically-induced coma for 19 days.

Towns has been open and honest about his family’s experiences with COVID-19 revealing in December 2020 that seven family members died due to the virus, including his mother and an uncle.

Then earlier this month, Towns ended up getting the virus, and Woods showed her support.
