Dwayne Johnson brings on his mother Ata to play ukulele on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Dwayne Johnson appeared in a virtual interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, but his mother Ata Johnson stole the show.

The Rock was promoting his new NBC series Young Rock, debuting February 16, when Fallon mentioned he didn’t know Johnson’s mother played the ukulele, as he saw in a video Johnson recently posted.

The 48-year-old action star surprised Fallon by bringing Ata on camera, and having her play two songs on the ukulele for him.

Fallon mentioned that he saw a video on Johnson’s Instagram, where they were at his grandparents’ gravestones in Hawaii.

The talk show host mentioned that he didn’t know Ata played the ukulele, and while Johnson first tried to explain that she does, he decided just to bring her on camera instead.

Johnson told his mother that he wants her to ‘say hi to somebody you know,’ when she saw Fallon on the screen.

Ata asked if he remembered her, he said ‘of course, from our bit’ on New Year’s Eve. I remember our bit.’

When she asked if he remembered what he did, Fallon said he remembered, ‘laying on the ground pretending I was passed out,’ which Ata said, ‘That was awesome.’

She added that she, ‘had the best time that night’ with Fallon and the mother of Johnson’s wife, Lauren Hashian.

When asked about the video, Ata said that, ‘every time we go to Hawaii, we go to visit my parents, yeah.’

She then proceeded to play the Samoan folk song Savalivali Means Go for a Walk for Fallon, who was sufficiently impressed.  

Ata even said she had one more song, Johnson joked, ‘What do you mean you have one more?’ as she continued to play an impromptu song about Fallon.

Dwayne said, ‘Good job mom’ and gave her a high five, while Fallon said she, ‘stole the interview,’ adding, ‘You’re unbelievable.’

Johnson’s new series Young Rock, which is based on the true stories from his childhood, debuts on NBC February 16.
