A thrifty home-cook has revealed how to make shepherd’s pie boats for the whole family – and it takes less than 15 minutes.

The woman shared a post on a budget cooking group online – showing off the delicious looking pies which are served in taco boats instead of pastry.

The taco shells are filled with stewed meat, topped with garlic mashed potato and cheese before being cooked in the air fryer.

She revealed the meal is perfect for when yous are feeling time-poor as three of the boats cook in less than 10 minutes.

‘I used the pre-done mash you can get at Woollies and have added a picture,’ she said.

‘I also cooked the mince and vegetables the night before when I had more time so tonight all we had to do was throw it together and air fry.’

And she said she was more than impressed with how the meal turned out.

She shared pictures of the finished meals and people appeared to be on board with the idea.

‘I’m going to try making these, I get that mash too all the time now, yes it might be lazy but it’s yummy and easy, while I am cooking steak and tomatoes in my air fryer I heat one of those mash in my microwave, dinner in about 10 mins,’ said another.

The mince can be your preferred stew – but is best cooked the night before to help the flavour develop – according to home cooks on the post.

The mashed potato appears to be a popular alternative too making the topping from scratch. 

HOW CAN I MAKE POTATO PIE BOATS AT HOME?

INGREDIENTS 

 Meat mixture

 Beef mince 

Onion

Carrot

Mushrooms

Tomato paste

Garlic powder 

Other

Grated cheese

Taco boats

Pre-made mashed potato 

Salt

Pepper 

METHOD 

To make the meat mixture brown the mince then add onion and garlic powder. Combine the  vegetables and tomato paste and stew for as long as possible.

This is best done the night before.

To make the pies take the meat mixture from the fridge and make the mashed potato.

Add the meat mixture to the taco boat, cover with the potato mixture and grated cheese.

Put in an air fryer on 180C for between 7-10 minutes. 

Serve hot.
