After three years on Neighbours, Bonnie Anderson has announced she’s leaving the long-running soap.

In an interview with the Herald Sun on Monday, the 26-year-old actress said she’d quit the show to ‘focus on my music and songwriting and more acting’.

But she said she’d loved her time on Ramsay Street, and claimed she was ‘like a pig in mud’ during her stint on the series.

‘Neighbours really changed my life for the better in so, so many ways,’ Bonnie told the Herald Sun.

‘I feel like at the age I was, 23, when I joined the show it has really shaped me into the person that I am today.

‘I have overcome a lot, I have grown and I am proud of the way I live my life.’

Bonnie portrays Bea Nilsson on the show, and her final episode is due to air sometime mid-year. 

She added: ‘I am ready to spread my wings. I am ready to fly.’

Bonnie said her first move post-Neighbours will be returning to the recording studio to put out some new music.

She also spoke about her departure from the show in a lengthy post on Instagram on Monday.  

‘After the most amazing three years, my time on Neighbours is coming to an end,’ she began.

‘Playing Bea has been an experience that’s grown me beyond anything I could have imagined.

‘I’ve made life long friends at Neighbours and very grateful for being supported and accepted from day one as a first time actor from my fellow actors, the producers, crew and viewers! You’re all special to me!

‘It’s time for me continue challenging myself and to create space to focus on my music, songwriting and more acting.’

She added: ‘I am so excited to see what comes next.’
