Channel Nine is ‘planning a celebrity version of Married At First Sight’

Channel Nine is ‘planning a celebrity version of Married At First Sight’ – as a breakfast TV star confirms they were approached by casting producers

A celebrity edition of Married At First Sight is rumoured to be in the works.

Gossip reporter Richard Reid, formerly of Studio 10 and the Today show, claimed on Thursday that he’d been approached for the project.

The I’m a Celebrity winner, 56, made the admission in the comments section of an Instagram post by comedian Tom Gleeson.

Tom had shared a screenshot of Wednesday’s TV ratings, which revealed Married At First Sight had beaten his show Hard Quiz.

‘Bloody MAFS! You’re better than this Australia. #HardQuiz,’ the funnyman wrote.

Richard then replied in the comments: ‘And to think I passed being on “Celebrity MAFS”. Maybe next year!’

Tom responded: ‘Stop starting rumours about yourself.’

While it’s possible Richard was just joking, a celebrity edition of Married At First Sight certainly isn’t beyond the realm of possibility.

Several participants on the regular series are borderline famous already.

Bryce Ruthven from this year’s season used to be a radio presenter in Canberra, and bride Booka Nile plays keyboards in a successful heavy metal band.

Cameron Merchant from the 2019 season was an accomplished cricketer.

Production company Endemol Shine is known to seek out high-profile participants, and even came close to casting Mercedes Corby a few years ago.

Meanwhile, Richard is also no stranger to dating shows as he appeared on Channel Seven’s First Dates in February last year.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Nine and Richard Reid for comment.
