Daisy Ridley responds to Ted Cruz taking shot at her ’emotionally tortured ‘ Star Wars character with epic burn about leaving Texas in crisis

Daisy Ridley has responded to Texas Senator Ted Cruz taking a swipe at her Star Wars character while defending Gina Carano following her firing from Disney.

The 28-year-old English actress who played the lead role of Rey in three Star Wars films during an interview Tuesday with Yahoo Entertainment was asked about Cruz, 50, taking to Twitter earlier this month in defense of Carano, 38.

‘Texan Gina Carano broke barriers in the Star Wars universe: not a princess, not a victim, not some emotionally tortured Jedi. She played a woman who kicked ass & who girls looked up to. She was instrumental in making Star Wars fun again. Of course Disney canceled her,’ Cruz tweeted on February 11 a day after Carano was fired following her Instagram post comparing the treatment of American conservatives to the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust.

Cruz was apparently referencing Ridley’s character Rey who was traumatized as an orphan after the killing of her parents and the actress admitted that she was not aware of his tweet.

‘I did not know, and I am very happy to be an emotionally tortured Jedi who doesn’t leave their state when it’s having a terrible time,’ Ridley clapped back.

The actress was referencing Cruz’s widely criticized decision earlier this month to go to Cancun, Mexico with his family while Texas was being hit with a historic winter storm that left about 4.3 million without power and millions without drinking water.

Ridley was promoting her upcoming movie Chaos Walking that premiered Wednesday in South Korea.

Chaos Walking directed by Doug Liman is based on the sci-fi trilogy Chaos Walking and also features Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, and David Oyelowo.

Ridley also will star in The Marsh King’s Daughter after landing the role of Helena in Neil Burger’s upcoming flick, an adaptation of Karen Dionne’s best-selling psychological-thriller novel of the same name.

Deadline recently reported that principle photography is scheduled for the summer in Canada.

The actress recently revealed that she ‘wept all day’ when she wrapped production on her final Star Wars film.

Daisy thought she was going to ‘pop a vein’ because she was crying so much after finishing work on 2109’s The Rise of Skywalker.

She said: ‘When we wrapped (‘The Rise of Skywalker’) I wept all day. I felt like I was going to pop a vein because I was crying so much.’
