An actor who starred in Poldark and The Crown has revealed that he worked as a Deliveroo driver during the first coronavirus lockdown.

Richard Harrington was among many actors left out of work as a result of the pandemic so decided to pick up a job delivering takeaways in London, Wales Online reported.

The 45-year-old told BBC Cymru Fyw that he was thankful for the job, which helped keep him fit.

‘I got a job with Deliveroo, going around on my bike and delivering takeaways to people in London, the Welsh actor said.

‘I’m normally quite a fit person, but the lockdown had turned me into a lock-in, so I was thankful to go on my bike every day because of the job.’

The Hinterland star said he has also been alcohol-free since Christmas, putting it down to the lack of ‘peer pressure’ normally felt at pubs and restaurants.

Harrington’s new series Fflam is currently showing in Wales on S4C, with the first three episodes available on BBCiPlayer.

The tense drama follows widow Noni as she begins to move on from the death of her husband.

‘I lost my mum in 2014 so I’m a little obsessed with grief,’ said Harrington.

‘She had cancer and it was a big shock when she had the prognosis, but we had nine months to deal with it.

‘Life is a lot easier but it took me a long time to deal with it. Grief can creep in you when you least expect it. Having said that, you don’t really deal with anything for a couple years after,’ The Sun reported Harrington as saying.

The actor said he had a ‘complete breakdown’ a year-and-a-half after his mother’s death.

‘I threw myself into work, I threw myself into running, I threw myself into the well-being of my children.

‘But looking back I wasn’t very kind to myself, I didn’t give myself much room to think properly.’

Harrington said he had not started any new projects since Fflam finished filming in December but that he is expecting a busy time ahead as he and his wife, actress Hannah Daniel, prepare to welcome their second child together.
