Australian fans show their love and support for Britney Spears as ‘heartbreaking’ and ‘eye-opening’ documentary airs on Channel Nine

Britney Spears fans have been outraged after Channel Nine aired an explosive documentary on the American pop star’s rise to fame and fortune on Tuesday.

The documentary was directed by Samantha Stark, and focuses on the singer’s court-sanctioned conservatorship overseen by her father, Jamie Spears.

Australians watching from home were quick to flock to their social media to show their love and support towards the iconic singer.

‘The #FramingBritneySpears documentary is so disturbing, how she was treated by the paparazzi and media was disgusting,’ one fan tweeted.

‘Heartbreaking to see how someone growing up was treating this way in public,’ commented a second.

Another viewer said that the documentary was ‘eye opening,’ while a fourth thanked Channel Nine for airing the documentary Down Under.

The Free Britney movement has seen fans lobbying for the pop star to be released from her conservatorship, which has been in place since 2008.

Her main conservator is her father, Jamie Spears, who has control of her business affairs due to concerns for her mental health.

Framing Britney Spears took a deep dive into the life and career of the Toxic artist, revealing the many ways her narrative had been manipulated by the media and those in her life, leading to her mental health struggles and her ongoing conservatorship woes. 

Commenting on the outpouring of new information from people who watched the documentary, Liz said: ‘Yeah. And I think something that’s happened as well is the documentary has helped us earn the trust of even more people. 

‘As we talked about earlier, people have been very distrustful of the press because they’ve felt burned in the past and I think the documentary’s very sensitive treatment and respect of all parties and everyone helped us further.’
