This Morning: Phillip Schofield makes ‘dig’ at Meghan Markle 2024 Presidential race ambitions

Philip Schofield appeared to take another a dig at Meghan Markle today by suggesting her potential political ambitions are in contradiction with the ‘private, quiet life’ she wants.

The This Morning host, 58, was discussing Donald Trump’s calls to the Duchess of Sussex to run against him for the 2024 Presidential race with Camilla Tominey and Nick Ferrari.

Royal expert Camilla said that while it’s ‘always been suggested’ that Meghan one day wants to enter the world of politics, speculation seems to have ramped up following her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Making what appeared to be a thinly veiled jibe at the duchess, Phil pointed out that any political career she might have means she wouldn’t be able to escape the media scrutiny she has fought so vehemently against.

It comes a day after the presenter said that Harry and Meghan should ‘shut up now’, after ‘stabbing a knife through the heart of the monarchy’.

‘I love that this idea of Meghan as the next president has really ramped up in the aftermath of the Oprah interview’, said Camilla.

‘It had always been suggested she had political ambitions.

‘2024 may be a little bit too soon, when you consider she’s pregnant with her next child and may have family matters closer to hand, but that is certainly a presidential race I would want to watch.

‘But also, doesn’t she want a quiet, private life?’, asked Phil.

Camilla replied: ‘Yes, also she doesn’t want much scrutiny and I would suggest if she thinks the British press have been rather intrusive when it comes to her being a royal, if she were to be a candidate, my goodness, a great deal would be unleashed on her.

‘So she would have to think very carefully if she is plotting a track to the White house.’

Nick, 62, mockingly suggested: ‘Let’s shake it it up a bit, could we get J-Lo and Jerry Springer involved because then you’ll have the whole lot then.’

Yesterday, Phil hit out at Meghan and Harry once again, suggesting they had ‘stabbed a knife through the heart of the monarchy’.

He asked royal biographer Gyles Brandreth whether it was time for the Sussexes to ‘shut up’ because they have ‘made their point’ and can now ‘return to their quiet life in America’.

His question comes after the couple tipped off a journalist who made public their continuing war with the Royal Family – despite the Queen’s hopes that a palace investigation into their Oprah claims would be ‘deal with privately’.

Schofield went on to comment on how the couple had complained to US TV host Gayle King that senior royals are still yet to speak to Meghan following the bombshell Oprah interview.

King revealed yesterday that she had spoken to Meghan and Harry over the weekend, and claimed they were ‘upset’ that the palace were saying they wanted to sort things out privately while ‘disparaging’ stories were still being published about Meghan.

Speaking on CBS This Morning, Gayle King said: 'Meghan has documents to back up everything that she said on Oprah’s interview. Everything'

Harry and Meghan prompted fresh outrage after sharing private conversations with Prince Charles and Prince William with US journalist Gayle King

‘No one in the royal family has talked to Meghan yet at this particular time,’ King had told CBS.

‘They both want to move forward with this and they both want healing in this family. At the end of the day, that’s Harry’s family.’

Discussing King’s claims with panellists Beverley Turner and Brandreth, Schofield said: ‘There’s been an enormous amount of sympathy over the race issue and the mental health issue… but looking at the polls that sympathy seems to be ebbing away.

‘Isn’t there this feeling Gyles, that you’ve made your point, essentially shut up now and get on with your quiet American life, you’ve stabbed a knife through the heart of the monarchy… but stop now.’
