Ryan Thomas and Lucy Mecklenburgh’s ‘DIY makeover TV show idea turned down by ITV’

Ryan Thomas and Lucy Mecklenburgh’s hopes for their own DIY makeover show have been dashed after they were reportedly turned down by ITV.

The engaged couple recently purchased a new home in Manchester and are said to have had an idea to document their grand renovations in a makeover-style show.

But according to reports, their dreams won’t become a reality after their idea was rejected by the broadcaster.

The couple also reportedly had meetings with TV executives, but unfortunately for them, their proposal wasn’t given the green light.

A source told The Mirror: ‘Ryan and Lucy thought their makeover show plan would be a dead cert for ITV, given their previous profiles on Coronation Street and The Only Way Is Essex.

‘It would have had the added bonus that they’d have got lots of free labour and materials, and been paid to appear in the show.

‘But ITV turned them down. They’ve also punted the idea to Channel 5 but haven’t heard anything back.’

MailOnline have contacted representatives of Ryan, Lucy and ITV for comment.

The source noted that the idea was too similar to that of Sam & Billie: The Mummy Diaries, with the ITVBe show seeing Billie Faiers and husband Greg Shepherd’s plans to refurbish their pad.

Instead, Ryan, 36, and Lucy, 29, have been documenting their work on social media, giving fans updates on various stages of the makeover.

On Saturday, former Corrie star Ryan took to Instagram to give his followers a glimpse of the renovations.

Ryan recently revealed he’s in trouble with his fiancée after he bought a house without her knowledge.

Last month, the actor splashed out on a new family home in Cheshire for Lucy and their son Roman without her ever viewing the property.

Speaking on Friday’s episode of Lorraine, the former Coronation Street star admitted he still has some making up to do.

He confessed: ‘I’m still in trouble today. We’re not even in the house yet, it’s a building site. I can’t see light at the end of the tunnel.

‘Eventually it’ll be ok, but right now, everyone knows moving house is hard work, I’ve taken on more than I can chew with the house, but eventually we’ll be happy.’

The couple are currently living in Lucy’s native Essex with their 13-month-old son while they work on doing up their new Cheshire pad.

Back in March, Lucy shocked her Instagram followers when she shared a snap of a set of keys, captioned:  ‘New house, new project, new memories to be made.

‘@ryanthomas84 bought our new Manchester home without me viewing it he is a very brave man hahahah!!!’

Although she joked her fiance was a ‘brave man’, his risk appeared to pay off as she gushed: ‘It’s just perfect! Edwardian, tons of potential. I can’t wait to get started on the renovation!!’
