A mother has hit back at critics who labelled her ‘neglectful’ after she admitted she hated playing with her daughter.

Lynn Spinks, 36, from America, took to TikTok recently to candidly confess that she disliked playing dolls with her six-year-old daughter Caroline.

But her clip divided opinion – with some outraged viewers questioning why you would have children in the first place if you didn’t want to join in with their activities and interests.

However, towards the end of her video, Lynn admitted seeing how happy her daughter was after their time together made her think ‘I could definitely do that again’.

Following the criticism she faced for her confession, Lynn told FEMAIL: ‘I am absolutely shocked at the response it has gotten.

‘I feel like a lot of people didn’t watch it all the way through and think I am this neglectful mom, but the truth is that I learned how important this aspect of parenting is.’

Lynn captioned her post: ‘Parenting is hard, even when it’s easy. The little things really are the big things. Who knew?!’

In her clip, she explained that her daughter, who’s an only child, asked her to play Barbies together – a part of parenting Lynn ‘hates’ doing.

‘Last night my daughter asked me to play with her, and I hate doing that,’ she said.’I’ll go for a walk, I’ll take you somewhere, but I don’t want to play with your Barbies.’

But the mother-of-one ‘felt bad’ because of her daughter being an only child, and so she agreed to play for ‘like ten minutes’.

Lynn recalled: ‘This morning she got up and got ready for school, super good mood, and then she said will you play Barbies with me and I was thinking no…

‘Then she said “I had so much fun when you played Barbies with me yesterday” and it about broke my heart because if my half-hearted attempt to placate her meant that much, I could definitely do that again.’

However, Lynn’s confession and lack of enthusiasm left many people outraged, with some questioning why she’d ‘even bother having a kid’.

One TikTok user wrote: ‘I am not a parent, so I apologise for my ignorance, but why would you have a child if you didn’t want to be there for them? To play with them.’

However, towards the end of her video, Lynn admitted seeing how happy her daughter was after their time together made her think 'I could definitely do that again'

Another added: ‘You’re seriously complaining about playing Barbies for 10 minutes?’, while a third mocked: ‘Imagine having a child and having to spend time with them.’

However, other parents thanked Lynn for revealing the ‘truth’, as they admitted to feeling the same way about playing with their children.

Following the reaction, Lynn said: ‘Even though it’s not one of my strengths I recognize it’s important and I hope other parents do too.

‘There was of course another group of wildly supportive parents and they have meant so much to me – especially after reading all of the negative comments.’
