Kevin Bacon calls quarantine with wife of 32 years Kyra Sedgwick ‘a test for our marriage’

Quarantine was not easy for couples, even ones who have been married for over 30 years.

Kevin Bacon, 62, revealed that being on lockdown at home with his wife Kyra Sedgwick, 55, was a ‘test for our marriage’ during an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

The couple, who have been married since 1988, made things work by ensuring that they still spent time apart despite being cooped up at home together.

Making it work: Kevin Bacon, 62, revealed that being on lockdown at home with his wife Kyra Sedgwick, 55, was a ‘test for our marriage’ during an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

‘My wife and I realized that we’ve been married for a really long time, and quarantine really was an amazing, kind of, test for our marriage because I mean, we were really isolated,’ the Footloose star told Fallon.

Adding: ‘I think after a while we realized that we would kind of have to, even in our place, go away from each other.’

Kevin and Kyra, who are parents to 29-year-old Sosie and 31-year-old Travis, made a concerted effort to do their own thing everyday and reconvene for meal times.

‘So we would have breakfast, then she’d basically go to the bedroom, which we called the lair, and she spends a lot of time in her lair,’ he explained. ‘Then she’d text me and say, “Do you wanna do lunch later?” and I’d say “sure” and you know, we’d meet in the kitchen, and then she’d go back to the lair.’

‘Again, you know, drinks, maybe dinner, whatever. And then we’d get back together in the kitchen and do the same thing all over again,’ the star revealed.

The secret to their decades long marriage – a miracle by Hollywood standards – is keeping things fresh. The Tremors actor said of his wife, ‘she’s a constant source of entertainment.’

‘She always has some amazing thing to say or some observation,’ he added.

Kyra certainly had something amazing to say recently during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show when recalled the insane story of accidentally pressing the panic button at Tom Cruise’s home.

The mistake occurred during the time her husband Kevin was shooting the now-iconic 1992 film A Few Good Men with Cruise.

‘It’s a pretty good story,’ the New York City native said. ‘It was a sad moment, but it was a funny story. So I was pregnant, I was very pregnant, and we got invited over to dinner.’

The Closer star noted how she had already known Cruise, having worked with him on 1989’s Born On The Fourth Of July.

‘We got invited over for dinner with lots of famous people like Demi Moore and Bruce Willis because she was in the movie,’ she said, adding that the film’s director ‘Rob Reiner was there,’ as was Cruise’s former wife Nicole Kidman.

‘It was one of those nights that I often don’t get invited to and so there was this like fireplace mantle and I was looking around and there was this little button underneath the mantle,’ she said. ‘I was like, “Oh what is that little button?” So I pressed the little button because I thought maybe something interesting will happen.

‘Nothing happened and then I got a little nervous. I was like, “Oh nothing happened that doesn’t seem right.”‘

Sedgwick recalled the reaction the perennial A-lister had when she brought it to his attention.

‘I tapped Tom on the shoulder, who was in the middle of a story, and I said, “I pressed this button down here,”‘ she said. ‘And he was like, “You pressed that button?” And I was like, “Yeah, I pressed that button.” And he goes, “That’s the panic button.”‘

Sedgwick remembered the reaction that happened in the aftermath of the accident.

‘So the cops came, they had to stop the screening, they had to see Tom,’ she said. ‘I think there were more than like five cop cars, it was something.’

She noted with a chuckle that she ‘didn’t get invited back.’
