The masked intruders allegedly proceeded to take cash and luxury watches from the property, according to a report in The Telegraph.

Mr Magrez, who is also referred to as the ‘Pope of Bordeaux’, is a multi-millionaire who owns more than 40 wine chateaux across the country.

During the alleged robbery, Mr Magrez and his wife were taken around the house by the intruders in search of cash and other valuable items.

Lawyer for Mr Magrez, Pierre Blazy told media outlet France Bleu: ‘It was terrifying. His wife was threatened.

‘They said they would cut off her hands and take her to Spain. It was horrible. A pistol to her head.’

The thieves tied the couple up before stealing a collection of watches worth £87,000 (€100,000), cash and other items.

The couple were physically unharmed during the incident, but are now demanding answers.

Speaking during an appearance in Bordeaux Criminal Court, Mr Magrez said: ‘I want to know who betrayed me, gave them all the information to get into my house, and find the keys to my car and everything else.

‘They were perfectly informed.’

The trial continues.
