MasterChef’s ‘dessert king’ Reynold Poernomo makes shock confession admitting he ‘doesn’t eat his own creations’ and isn’t a big fan of sweets
Reynold Poernomo is known as the ‘dessert king’ and owns two KOI eateries geared towards sweet treats – with a third soon opening.
But the MasterChef Australia star, 27, admits that he doesn’t eat his own creations – and isn’t a big fan of sweets in general.
He told The Courier Mail on Sunday: ‘I don’t eat my own creations; I taste them but usually I just prefer gelato, always salted caramel. I’m not a big sweet tooth.’

Reynold owns to KOI Dessert Bars in Sydney, and is about to open a third location in Melbourne.
He is also updating his Sydney restaurant in Chippendale with an all new menu.
‘I’m trying to look at more colour but I also want to challenge myself more by creating more experiential and interactive dishes that give more of a story’ he said.

Reynold placed fourth in season seven of MasterChef Australia and came in third on MasterChef Australia: Back To Win.
Last year, while appearing on Back To Win, the chef admitted that his KOI Dessert Bar was struggling.
‘Like, we do have KOI. People think it’s successful. And it is. It’s great. I guess there were moments where we took the success for granted,’ he said, breaking down.

‘There’s a lot of things that we’re trying to keep our head up high, trying to maintain our image. The products are so great. But why is it that we’re still struggling?’
However with the news that KOI is expanding into Melbourne, it appears business is picking up.
Reynold appeared on Sunday’s episode of MasterChef Australia as a guest judge alongside Callum Hann and Poh Ling Yeow.
