Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall has revealed the secret to the group’s success is that they resisted attempts from music bosses to make one member the ‘lead’ singer.
The British girl group, made up of Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, are celebrating 10 years together after forming on the X-Factor in 2011, during which there was also fourth member, Jesy Nelson.
And Jade, 28, said in an interview on Saturday that the key to their group dynamic is that they were determined to remain ‘equal’ and weren’t ‘trying to outdo each other’.

In a new interview on the Zach Sang radio show in the US, Jade said: ‘We have always had the same vision together, we always wanted to be equal. Nobody wanted to outshine someone else.
‘The minute that happens in a group dynamic is where the cracks start to show, if someone has a bit more of an ego.
‘We have always been very determined to remain equal even when over the years people on our team, or whoever else, might have suggested otherwise.’

She continued: ‘It’s been us that has said no, we know it works better, it is healthier for us doing it that way. And it has, it’s got us where we are now.
‘We have the same ambition, have the same agenda and be there for each other without trying to outdo each other.’
The pop group have gone through a number of changes in recent years. They left Simon Cowell’s record label Syco for RCA in 2018, and recently became a trio following Jesy’s departure in December last year.

Meanwhile, the remaining Little Mix members have been continuing to work on new music since Jesy’s exit and recently dropped their first release – Confetti.
Speaking to Euphoria magazine recently, the trio revealed that they’ve enjoyed adapting to their new normal without Jesy, explaining that they often work through their issues in group therapy.
Asked how they continued following their former bandmate’s shock departure, Jade shared: ‘It’s still all systems go in Little Mix world. It’s just learning to adapt. I think it’s quite exciting.’
Discussing the success of their hit Sweet Melody in January, she continued: ‘We got off to a good start as a three by having our No. 1 single in the UK.
‘That was like, “Oh wow, this is a good sign, good omen, that this year is going to be good for us.”‘
Despite the shift in the group dynamic from a quartet to a trio, the group are stronger than ever, with Perrie, 27, explaining that they know they can rely on one another.
‘We love going to therapy together,’ she admitted. ‘We also have each other, which is huge.
‘We’re each other’s support system in a way because we’re sisters and feel every emotion together. We can always lean on each other.’
Leigh-Anne added that this year has really been about dumping anything toxic from her life and ‘being around people that make you feel good and that bring something positive into your life.’
The trio have recently released offirst single without Jesy, a remix of their hit single Confetti, which features American rapper Saweetie, and upon its release – soared to the top of the UK iTunes chart.
