President Biden is heading to his Delaware beach home on Wednesday for a midweek break to celebrate the first lady’s 70th birthday.

It is his first trip to his vacation home since becoming president.

Details emerged with a Federal Aviation Administration notice restricting air operations around Rehoboth Beach from Wednesday to Friday because of a VIP.

Coming in the middle of the week so soon after the Memorial Day weekend, the timing initially seemed odd.

However, Dr Jill Biden will turn 70 on Thursday, suggesting the trip is a birthday celebration.

The couple spent $2.7 million on the six-bedroom house with a swimming pool, located about two blocks from the beach, in 2017.

‘Throughout our careers, Jill and I have dreamed of being able to buy a place at the beach at home where we can bring the whole family,’ said Biden at the time.

‘We feel very lucky that we’re now able to make that happen and are looking forward to spending time with our family in the place that matters most to us in the world.’

While the president has spent frequent weekends at his home just outside Wilmington, Delaware, since moving into the White House he has yet to spend time at his Rehoboth Beach house as president.

He did, however, visit twice as president elect.

A reporter with CNN tweeted that he was expected to leave the White House on Wednesday after talks with a senior Republican senator about his infrastructure proposals.

‘President Biden is visiting Rehoboth Beach this week, per two aides,’ wrote Kaitlan Collins.

‘He leaves tomorrow following a meeting with Sen. Capito and is scheduled to return Friday.’

Details of the trip leaked out on Tuesday morning as aides said he was due to leave after an infrastructure meeting on Wednesday

Rehoboth Beach has about 1,500 full-time residents but swells to 25,000 during peak summer months.

Throughout his career as a senator, Biden was known for commuting home from Washington to Delaware every evening to be with his family.

And as president, he has escaped the White House at every opportunity.

Out of the 19 weekends, Biden has only spent five at his official residence.

Biden and first lady marked Memorial Day weekend in their home state, where he delivered an emotional speech in New Castle, Delaware where he invoked his late son and military veteran Beau Biden.
