Chris Hughes talked about his ex-girlfriend Jesy Nelson on Friday and admitted he finds ‘weird people’ attractive as he looks for love.

Chris also shared his words of wisdom for the new Love Island cast – as they prepare to make their eagerly-awaited debut on Monday – and reflected on his time on the show.

‘It’s been hard over the last year to meet people and talk without going out,’ Chris said before revealing what he looks for in a woman.

He continued: ‘For me I like to have someone who is relatable, someone I have something in common with. I’ve got a lot of hobbies and I like to do different activities like playing golf or going to the theatre.

‘I think it’s important to find someone who is the same and on your level, wanting to explore and go on new adventures. It sounds cliché but that’s what I’m looking for.

‘I also like banter, I like it when they give me a bit of stick because it’s kind of flirty. I like someone to be exciting and just be different. I like weird people, weird is quite attractive to me because you never know what to expect.’

Chris, who has had a series of high profile relationships with the likes of Jesy and fellow Love Islander Olivia Attwood said he doesn’t have a ‘type’.

He explained: ‘I’ve been told I have a type but I don’t think I do, I’m drawn to personality. In physical attraction, it’s obviously important that you find them attractive but for me, a personality makes someone physically attractive.’

Reflecting on his past romances, Chris insisted he doesn’t mind if they are famous or not whilst praising his ex-girlfriend Jesy as ‘amazing’, both on and off the stage.

He said: ‘I think with past relationships you learn from them all, I just want to have fun, all of my relationships have been fun since Love Island.

‘Jesy was wicked, she is an amazing person. I absolutely loved the whole time we had together so for me it doesn’t make a difference if they’re in or out of the spotlight.

‘There are amazing people who are famous. For me, you never know until you meet them and chat to them. You’ve got to be open.’

Jesy announced her departure from Little Mix earlier this year to focus on her mental health and has been teasing the release of new music.

‘We’re still good friends,’ Chris said as he spoke about her burgeoning solo career. ‘We still keep in touch from time-to-time and I wished her luck recently with her new music.

‘She’s going to smash it, she’s Jesy Nelson at the end of the day, she’s not going to f**k it up, she’s going to hit it out the park. She’s “class” so I’m looking forward to hearing her new tunes, I’m looking forward to cruising in the car to her.

‘We will always be good mates and our family are still friends which is the way it should be.’

Although he is still incredibly fond of his ex, Chris has joined Tinder in a bid to ‘crack on’ and find love over the summer.

He has joined the dating app’s virtual Swipe Island which allows Tinder users to ‘couple up’ with other members, and even Love Islanders Curtis Pritchard, Amy Hart, Demi Jones and Kaz Crossley have joined the new platform.

The digital experience is only available for a limited time and launches on Sunday June 20th at 8pm to 10pm, in anticipation for the new series of Love Island.

Speaking about the ITV dating show, Chris said: ‘I’m looking forward to the new series, it’s going to be great viewing and I feel like we need it because it’s been a c****y 12 months.’

On what advice he would give to the 2021 contestants, he added: ‘I think just go in there and enjoy yourself, the show blew up whilst we were on it so my advice would be, “don’t think about life after Love Island, just go on there and enjoy the moment.”

‘I think a lot of people think it’s staged but it’s not, its so real,’ added the reality star as he detailed the biggest misconception surrounding the show.

‘It’s raw, pure emotion, it’s all natural. You can’t stage those feelings and it really annoys me when people say that.’

Join Swipe Island on Tinder between 8-10pm on Monday 28th and throughout the summer.
