A Florida daycare worker has been charged with child abuse after surveillance footage appeared to show her slapping two children in her care and dropping one from three feet in the air, allegedly fracturing his leg.

Yamirka Menendez, 51, is accused of abusing two children at Time of Wonder Daycare in Tampa, Florida, on September 8.

Video footage – released by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department – appears to show Menendez taking a one-year-old boy out of a mechanical chair by his wrists at around 8am, before lifting him three feet in the air and dropping him on the floor.

Police say the boy was left ‘unable to stand upright or place weight on his left foot and leg.’

He was later discovered to be suffering from fractures on his tibia and fibula, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department.

Later that day, around noon, Menendez appears to hit the same boy on the head while he sits in the mechanical chair.

An hour later, Menendez was seen feeding another child – a four-month-old baby.

Police allege that Menendez ‘forcefully grabbed and yanked the victim’s right leg and slapped the child several times.’

The next day, the mother of the one-year-old boy took her son to the hospital after discovering he couldn’t put weight on his left foot.

The doctor diagnosed the fractures and weeks later on September 22, Child Protective Services examined the child, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

They determined the injury to be a result of child abuse and reported it to the Sherriff’s Office.

On September 28, Menendez was arrested and faces child abuse charges.
