Gianluigi Donnarumma has laughed off ‘nonsense’ rumours that he is unhappy at new club Paris Saint-Germain as he fights for the No 1 spot with Keylor Navas.

The 22-year-old joined PSG from AC Milan on a free transfer earlier this summer, having won Euro 2020 with Italy – as well as the player of the tournament award – less than a month before arriving in Paris.

But following his move, Donnarumma has had to play second fiddle to Navas with PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino preferring the veteran Costa Rican in net for much of the campaign so far.

Donnarumma’s lack of minutes has led to claims that he is unhappy with his start to life at PSG, saying his move has turned sour after just a couple of months at the Parc des Princes.

Navas, 34, has featured eight times in all competitions for PSG this season, while Donnarumma only made his third appearance for his new club on Tuesday night.

But after starring on his Champions League debut in PSG’s win over Manchester City on Tuesday, Donnarumma quickly rubbished those claims.

‘The criticism of my choice to come to Paris? I just want to laugh,’ Donnarumma told Sky Sport Italia.

‘I’m happy at PSG, and I laugh when I read all this nonsense about me. It’s incredible to play with all these champions.

‘There is no problem, there is no type of problem, I’m happy to be here, I have the [club] that always supports me.’

Donnarumma put in a stellar performance to keep Pep Guardiola’s men at bay in Tuesday’s group game in the French capital, with Idrissa Gueye and Lionel Messi both getting on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win.

And it was a dream debut for Donnarumma in the Champions League, given how he never featured in Europe’s elite club competition with his boyhood club AC Milan.

‘This is how I dreamed of my debut in the Champions League, and the dream came true. It was a great match, an immense joy,’ Donnarumma added.

‘I thank all those who have been close to me, from my father to my mother, to my girlfriend.’

Donnarumma is expected to continue to rotate with Navas as the season progresses, given the strength in depth Pochettino has in the goalkeeper position.

But with the Italian still only 22, he is expected to become PSG’s No 1 for years to come.
