Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash, Capello told Il Corriere dello Sport: ‘I hope they will fulfil his desire because he is a national team player who has given an enormous contribution.

‘However, let me say that he was ungrateful to Milan. After all the club did for him and his family when he was a kid, he should have behaved differently.’

Donnarumma also shared his thoughts on his return to the San Siro on Wednesday evening.

The former Rossonero said it would be sad to receive a hostile reception from the club’s supporters on his return as he admitted he ‘will always be a Milan fan’.

‘I have always given everything for Milan, right up until the end,’ Donnarumma said at the press conference on Tuesday.

‘I would be sorry, because this is a very important match, a Nations League semi-final, so I hope the fans can help us.’

The fans were even seen waving cash at Donnarumma while he was playing for the youth side.
