Richmond in Victoria and Surry Hills in New South Wales have been listed among the ‘coolest neighbourhoods’ in the world, beating out suburbs in Singapore, Barcelona and Tokyo.
Richmond was dubbed the 10th coolest neighbourhood in Australia in Time Out’s latest annual ranking, while Surry Hills took the 19th spot.
Nørrebro in Copenhagen was crowned the coolest suburb in the world for its ‘dazzling blend of historical landmarks, ultramodern architecture and food’, with Andersonville, Chicago hailed as second best.

Surry Hills took out the 19th spot in Time Out’s ranking
Richmond, located in Melbourne’s inner east, was praised for its combination of café culture, bustling Vietnamese eateries and fashion outlets.
The popular suburb is home to the Corner Hotel – which is dubbed to be one of Melbourne’s most beloved live music venues.
According to the publication, the ‘perfect day’ in Richmond is started by enjoying blueberry and ricotta hotcakes at Church Street café, Top Paddock, followed by shopping at the fashion and furniture retailers.

The top ten also included pockets in Seoul, Edinburgh, New York, Budapest and Hong Kong.
To determine the ranking, Time Out polled 27,000 people and asked local experts to rank the best places to go for food, fun, culture and community.
Last year Yarraville in Melbourne ranked in 5th place while Sydney’s Marrickville ranked in 10th position.
