CHRIS SUTTON: For Brendon Batson to threaten a charity is shameful… he should RESIGN! And what has Maheta Molango done since his arrival at the PFA? Gordon Taylor’s acolytes are still running the ship – and the ship stinks

This is a threat, it’s as simple as that. Do as you’re told, otherwise the players’ union won’t play ball.

It is nearly 12 months since Sportsmail launched its dementia campaign, months after Gordon Taylor left the PFA, and yet we are still getting the same old excuses, still seeing that families are not getting the help they need, and still getting this type of behaviour.

To issue a threat to a charity is pretty remarkable, when you think about it.

The PFA Charity is threatening to withdraw its support for dementia campaign group Head for Change, after details of a meeting between the two organisations were reported by Sportsmail last week.

In a subsequent letter sent to Head for Change on Monday, the chair of the PFA charity — Brendon Batson — makes a clear threat, warning that the charity is considering ceasing communications with the group. In his role as chair, Batson has oversight of £62million of the PFA’s cash reserves, which are held in trust by the charity rather than the union itself.

The former West Bromwich Albion defender’s influence has grown following the decision by new PFA chief executive Maheta Molango not to join the charity’s board, leaving the organisation in the hands of Batson and seven other trustees.

Who does Brendon Batson think he is? What makes him think he has the right to say this?

There will be some out there who think he should resign on the back of this and it is hard to argue with that. This is yet more evidence that Taylor’s acolytes, the likes of Batson, Simon Barker (assistant chief executive) and John Bramall (deputy chief executive) are still running the ship — and the ship stinks.

Exactly what changes has new chief executive Maheta Molango made? We heard all about what a difference he would make when he came in.

As far as I can see, the only difference is that he has handed Batson the keys to the coffers.

Molango is not in control of this situation, Batson is. And Batson sees fit to make threats to people like the Head for Change charity. People who are trying to help.

Even now, even after everything that has happened, the Taylor-ites think they are untouchable — do it our way or else we’ll stop speaking to you.

This, remember, is the players’ union. They exist to help their members and yet you have got Batson behaving like this.

It’s not a good look for him, it’s not a good look for the PFA and I would love to hear what Molango thinks about it.

The PFA continue to make excuses. They have millions in the bank. There are families who need help now and they are not getting it. This is shameful from Batson.

Head for Change made it clear to the PFA that they would be relaying details of the meeting to their members and this is the response they get for doing that?

They have been transparent. They want their members to know everything.

That the PFA are unhappy about such transparency speaks volumes.
