Woolworths has been forced to take down an ‘inappropriate’ Halloween decoration after a mum-of-three revealed her kids were left frightened when they spotted a skull figure floating near the meat aisle.
The shopper, from Western Australia, said her family was greeted with a large black figure sporting a skeletal face and fingers that was dangling off the ceiling above Halloween-themed lollies and sugary snacks.
The mum said her kids were so terrified, they asked if they could leave the store.
‘The decorations are not appropriate, can’t you just dedicate a spot or something?’ she posted on Woolworths’ Facebook group.
‘Mine said “lets leave and go to IGA instead, they don’t have scary decorations”… Any one else struggle with their kids when the decorations come out?’

The mum praised the supermarket for rolling out ‘Quiet Hour’ – a low-sensory initiative designed to help reduce anxiety and stress for customers with specific needs, including autism, so they can shop in a calmer and quieter environment.
But pointed out the Halloween display would not offer a pleasant environment for shoppers with specific needs.
‘It’s great you have quiet hour but this is not helping at all,’ she said.
In a statement to Daily Mail Australia, a Woolworths spokesman said: ‘We have passed this feedback on to the store team, who have since amended the display.
‘Our store teams enjoy helping customers celebrate a range of events throughout the year and we encourage them to get in the festive spirit by decorating their store in the lead up to celebrations like Halloween,’ he said.
‘We want all customers to feel comfortable and welcome in our stores, and appreciate this customer’s feedback on the decorations at her local store.’

After sharing her experience on social media, many agreed with the mum.
‘I think a dedicated section would be better – isn’t that what they’ve done in the past?, I also think it’s a bit tasteless and inappropriate at the moment,’ one wrote.
Another mum agreed, saying: ‘Yes, it’s not good having scary decorations – it gives my kids nightmares.’
While one added: ‘Couldn’t agree more! This US based thing is out of control. Check out the ones in Kmart – they are worse! Frightened the daylights out of me and I’m in my 60’s. They’d definitely give a kid nightmares.’
However, not everyone was on her side.
‘It’s October. Many, many places have decorations up including people’s houses and properties. Maybe keep the kids at home for the entire month if this sort of display scares them,’ one man said.
Another mum wrote: ‘My daughter was always terrified of Santa, maybe Christmas should have been cancelled for the last 11 years just to suit her? Please leave the decorations up, we have had such a c*** few years and seeing the decorations out is a nice distraction.
While one added: ‘If only there was prior warning of this event. Like giving it the same date every year or something. Hmm wonder if anybody thought of that before.’
