A hotel boss has despaired after a pool party beyond his ‘wildest imagination’ took place between Denmark stars and female hotel staff before a World Cup qualifier.

The Danish FA has opened an investigation after reports in the country claimed that players allegedly romped with staff members at an Elsinore hotel last week.

The Euro 2020 semi-finallists had been due to fly out to Chisinau for their qualifier against Moldova last Saturday.

Michael Lauritsen, manager of the Hotel Marienlyst, fumed in a leaked internal email to staff, labelling the event ‘disappointing and totally unacceptable’. Two staff members have been disciplined following the alleged incident.

‘Unfortunately, there are some employees who have been too friendly to the national team,’ he wrote, via The Sun.

‘I had not thought this could take place in my wildest imagination.

‘I have to remind you that we always act professionally, and do not socialise with the players privately in guest areas or in the rooms.’

Lauritsen told Danish magazine Se og Hor: ‘I can confirm that I have had to reprimand two staff members who did not comply with our personnel policy.

‘I always have ongoing contact with the Danish FA, and of course we have discussed this.

‘I have been told that the women were in one pool while the players were in another, and the two groups gathered in one.

‘This is not going to work.’

Premier League stars Andreas Christensen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Kasper Schmeichel, Jannik Vestergaard, Christian Norgaard and Mathias Jensen were all in the Danish squad, although the identities of the players involved are not known.

The alleged pool party had no ramifications on the players’ performance, with Denmark smashing four past Moldova before sealing their place at the Qatar World Cup with a 1-0 win over Austria on Tuesday.
