Fed-up mum comes up with an amusing note trick to stop herself from mindless snacking throughout the day – so would you try it?

  • Mum has come up with amusing strategy to stop herself from mindless snacking
  • She taped a piece of paper inside her fridge with a handwritten message
  • The sign read: ‘Stop!!!! Drink water! You are bored, not hungry… Go for a walk’

A mum has come up with an amusing strategy to stop herself from mindless snacking every time she feels the temptation to reach into the fridge.

The Australian woman taped a piece of paper inside her fridge with a handwritten message reminding herself to drink water instead of giving into the mid-morning munchies or afternoon snack cravings.

The sign read: ‘Stop!!!! Drink water! You are bored, not hungry… Go for a walk.’

So every time she opens her fridge, the sign would prevent her from mindless snacking, an eating habit that usually confuses boredom or emotion for hunger.

The sign was shared via The Healthy Mummy, an Australian healthy eating and weight loss program encouraging mums to lead a healthier and happier lifestyle.

The post was met with more than 650 ‘likes’ and over 250 comments, with dozens of mums saying they were going to give the sign a go at home.

‘I’m going to put this on my fridge and pantry, I need it,’ one woman wrote, laughing.

Another said: ‘All my problems solved… right here.’

Many parents revealed they needed to stick the sign inside the fridge, kitchen bench and pantry cupboards to stop their own family from mindless snacking.

‘Need this for my husband,’ one woman said, while one woman wrote: ‘This is what my husband needs. Who am I kidding? This is what we all need.’

While another mum joked: ‘I don’t think that would help my rebellious side.’

The Healthy Mummy offered some tips to stop you from mindless eating, such as eating a bigger lunch to keep you fuller for longer and then having a smaller dinner.

Another thing to do is make a strict ‘no eating in front of the TV’ rule.

‘It is easy to over consume food when we aren’t paying attention to what we are eating and also ignoring our body’s signals that we have had enough,’ the team said.

‘Watching TV while eating dinner or a snack is likely to cause issues with weight loss, as we need to eat mindfully. Introduce a rule that you will only eat at the table (snacks too) and not while watching TV or running around after the kids.’
