Could Tony Armstrong save The Bachelor? Fans call for the AFL star to appear on the show – after dismal ratings for Jimmy Nicholson’s season

Tony Armstrong will be the next Bachelor, if fans get their way.

The AFL star-turned-ABC sports presenter, 32, was first tipped as a good pick for the dating show by entertainment reporter Richard Reid.

‘Please go with Tony Armstrong’ the celebrity gossip guru wrote in his column for New Idea earlier this week – and the idea is quickly picking up speed.

Richard said the sportsman is ‘funny, flirty and oh-so easy on the eyes’ which makes him ideal for the role – and others agree.

‘Omg, someone please make this happen!’ the website Pedestrian TV agreed on Tuesday.

Others said they would apply if Tony was the new Bachelor, while others saucily referred to him as ‘daddy’.

Tony rose to fame on the footy field playing for the Adelaide Crows, Sydney Swans and Collingwood Magpies between 2010 to 2015.

He pivoted careers and began hosting NITV’s Yokayi Footy, then moved to ABC as a sports presenter

Tony could be a breath of fresh air for the series.

The Bachelor delivered its lowest finale ratings in history in September, with just 629,000 metro viewers tuning in for the winner announcement.

The ratings marked the latest in a series of disappointing milestones for the dating show that first debuted on the network in 2013.

Jimmy Nicholson’s season delivered the lowest-rated season ever, the worst launch ever and also the worst finale/final decision ever.
