Jose Mourinho ‘wants Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tottenham’s Harry Winks’

Jose Mourinho ‘is plotting ANOTHER raid on the Premier League with January moves for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tottenham’s Harry Winks’ as Roma boss looks to overhaul his midfield

  • Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to improve his Roma squad
  • The Portuguese has been less-than-impressed with certain players so far
  • He reportedly wants Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Harry Winks to come to Italy
  • Mourinho knows both and coached them at Chelsea and Tottenham respectively

Jose Mourinho is targeting another raid on the Premier League with the Roma boss eyeing Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Harry Winks in January, according to reports.

Mourinho coaxed striker Tammy Abraham out of Chelsea in the summer and he looks set to make a return to two of his former clubs.

Corriere dello Sport detail that Mourinho is plotting an overhaul of his Roma squad in the January window and midfield additions are top of his list with Loftus-Cheek and Winks said to be among his targets.

In the summer, along with Abraham, Mourinho brought in another striker, three defenders and goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Loftus-Cheek, 25, was promoted to Chelsea’s first team under Mourinho and also has the Portuguese boss to thank for handing him his Champions League debut in late 2014.

The central midfielder is struggling for game-time at Chelsea right now under Thomas Tuchel.

Previous loans at Fulham and Crystal Palace did not provide the springboard he needed to solidify himself in Chelsea’s first team and a move to Roma may entice him with a fresh challenge.

Loftus-Cheek has completed just one 90 minutes in the Premier League so far this season and was not in the frame for Gareth Southgate’s 25-man England squad.

Winks, 25, was also nowhere near Southgate’s squad and he is of interest having fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham.

He was used regularly by Mourinho but became a spare part under the axed Nuno Espirito Santo, raising concerns over his long-term future at the club.

Winks has managed a measly 61 minutes of Premier League football from the opening 10 games this season.

New Spurs boss Antonio Conte may frustrate any exit for Winks, particularly to one of his managerial rivals, but if he too is not sold on the diminutive midfielder, a new challenge at Roma could well appeal.

Former Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria are also reported to be among Mourinho’s midfield targets.
