The Magpies face a job to tempt Ter Stegen, however, with the goalkeeper having spoke on many occasions of his happiness in Spain and his hope of retiring at the Nou Camp.

The upcoming January transfer window looks set to see plenty of communication between Newcastle and Spanish giants Barca, given the club’s reported interest in another of their star names.

The North East club are looking into the logistics of bringing in playmaker Philippe Coutinho on loan and offering the former Liverpool star another shot at Premier League football.

Coutinho has endured a miserable time in Spain following his huge £145m switch from Liverpool in January 2019.

Newcastle find themselves second from bottom in the Premier League after 10 games and face the real prospect of relegation, leaving them desperate to strengthen in January.

According to SPORT, Barcelona are willing to agree a loan deal for Coutinho that includes a mandatory option to buy following its conclusion.
