Chelsea legend John Terry labels Declan Rice the best holding midfielder in the WORLD after the West Ham star put in another masterful display to help end Liverpool’s unbeaten run

  • Declan Rice delivered another standout display for West Ham United on Sunday
  • The England midfielder was key during a 3-2 victory over title-chasing Liverpool
  • Former Chelsea defender John Terry was quick to praise Rice on Twitter

Declan Rice is the best holding midfielder in world football, according to former England captain John Terry.

Rice was key once again for West Ham in the middle of the park as they ended Liverpool’s unbeaten run to move third in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

His performances for David Moyes’s side have earned rave reviews and have seen him linked with several clubs – including a return to Terry’s Chelsea, where Rice started footballing life in their youth academy.

Declan Rice has received high praise from former Chelsea and England defender John Terry

And the former Blues skipper did not hold back in his praise after watching another standout display at the London Stadium from the Three Lions star.

‘Decland [sic] Rice is the best in his position in world football. What a player,’ tweeted the 40-year-old, who has only recently joined the social media platform.

It was a huge plus point on another monumental day for Moyes and his side, who moved level on points with Manchester City after their victory at the London Stadium.

After the match, the Scotsman praised the support inside the stadium, and vowed that there is more to come from his Hammers this season and beyond.

‘Everyone in football knows if you can get a team winning and trying every game you will get supporters backing you wherever. The supporters backed us today,’ he said.

‘This is a really good stadium for us, we are benefiting now. Everyone was questioning if the (lack of) supporters was why West Ham was doing well (during last season) but we’ve disproved that.

‘We all have to try and keep improving. I hope and believe my best time is still to come and at the moment I’ve got really good players who play with incredible character.’

Meanwhile, Terry is looking for his first job back in football since leaving his role as assistant to Dean Smith at Aston Villa.

The midlands club parted company with Smith over the weekend after a dismal run of results, with their fifth defeat in succession coming on Friday night against Southampton.
