Alex Scott reveals she wants to see women as gameshow hosts after making her debut on The Tournament

She made history as the first female presenter to host Football Focus in the sport show’s 47-year history. 

And Alex Scott, 37, has landed herself another presenting role on the new BBC daytime quiz The Tournament which first aired on Monday. 

The football pundit revealed she wanted to see more women presenting game shows as they are predominately male, however she said ‘It’s starting to change, let’s keep changing that narrative.’

Speaking to The Mirror, Alex said: ‘We’ve all grown up knowing that quiz shows are male, with a certain look or a certain sound. 

‘So, all I can hope for now is people see me on the Tournament… they believe that there’s the space for them.’  

Earlier this year the BBC revealed they are aiming for an even number of male and female hosts. 

However, not a single ITV gameshow at the time was fronted by a woman.

It comes after Ii was recently announced that Alex would be a pitchside reporter in FIFA 22, making her the first ever female voice to feature in the EA Sports’ video game.

Alex was heavily rumoured to replace Sue Barker on A Question Of Sport following her axing earlier this year – but the role went to Paddy McGuinness.

And Alex also hosted the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Final Draw Ceremony at Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse In October.  

The star stunned in a polar neck black dress embellished with silver sequins as she revealed the line-up for the much-anticipated tournament.

She paired her gown with a pair of black strapped heels as she joined presenter Gabby Logan on stage.

She was joined by her co-host Gabby Logan, 48, who looked effortlessly glamorous in a black wide-sleeve gown with a unique circular cut out at the neck. 

The UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Final Draw Ceremony saw the schedule for the matches revealed, including which teams will be playing first and the times and locations of the matches.

England are set to kick off the tournament against Austria on July 6 at Old Trafford, while the final will take place at Wembley on July 31. 

The European Championships in England is on course to be the biggest major tournament in history after 140,000 tickets were snapped up in three weeks. 

The tournament will take place in July of next year across nine English cities and will end with the final at Wembley at the end of the month, which has already sold 53,000 tickets.

The current final attendance would already break the ticket sales record for a UEFA Euro women’s match with just over nine months to go until the tournament begins on July 6.

The record attendance for a women’s fixture was set in November 2019 when 77,768 fans turned up to England’s friendly with Germany at Wembley, which can host 90,000 supporters for the UEFA Euro 2022 final.

As well as Wembley, the other venues to host Euros matches next summer include Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground, Southampton’s St Mary’s and Brentford’s Community Stadium in west London. 

The Manchester City Academy Stadium, Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane and the Amex Stadium in Brighton are among the other host venues.

England will host the tournament having never won the women’s European Championships in its history, but they did reach the final in 1984 and 2009.

The Lionesses’ first final saw them lose on penalties to Sweden, before being crushed by Germany 6-2 in the showpiece event 25 years later.

England’s last women’s European Championships campaign saw them reach the semi-finals for the fifth time in their history but they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by the Netherlands.

Her role in the game replaces Alan McNally as the pitchside reporter on Career Mode.

FIFA introduced women’s international teams into their game in 2015, giving fans the opportunity to play as some of the biggest female stars.

However, they are yet to introduce women’s domestic teams and it is unclear whether FIFA 22 will introduce that option.

Alex earned 140 caps for England during her 16-year playing career which saw her turn out for Arsenal, Birmingham and US side Boston Breakers.

She was announced as the new host of the BBC’s Football Focus in May, replacing Dan Walker – who stepped down after 12 years in the role. 

Alex, who has a degree in sports journalism and broadcasting, is one of the most well-known female pundits with roles across the BBC and Sky Sports.

She was also part of the BBC’s coverage of Euro 2020 and has regularly worked as a pundit for Premier League games broadcast on Sky Sports.
