Daniel Farke has insisted that he was ‘quite long term’ at Norwich in the cut-throat business of football after speaking out for the first time since his dismissal as Canaries boss.
Following his sacking after Norwich’s 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday – their first win of the Premier League season – Farke issued a statement via the League Managers Association (LMA) on Tuesday where he reflected on his four-and-a-half years at the club before thanking the fans for their support.
Farke took charge of 208 matches as Norwich boss but with just one win from their first 11 games, the Norfolk club decided it was time to act and relieved him of his duties shortly after their win over the Bees.

The 45-year-old German said he leaves Carrow Road with ‘great pride’ after achieving promotion to the Premier League on two separate occasions, which will ‘connect us forever’.
‘We, and by that I mean our coaching staff of Edmund Riemer, Christopher John, Chris Domogalla and myself have had a great time at Norwich City which has now come to an end,’ Farke’s statement via the LMA read.
‘We leave Norwich with great pride, having worked for this exceptional club for almost four and a half years means a lot to us.
‘Our special thanks go to the fans who have always supported the team and us, making the many great moments at Carrow Road unforgettable, two promotions to the Premier League together will connect us forever.

‘Working with the players was a great pleasure during all that time, as we had great trust in each other. We wish the team all the best and we are confident that they will be successful as the team spirit in the dressing room is second to none.
‘Football is a short term business and for that we were quite long term in Norwich because it was made possible by Delia Smith, Michael Wynn Jones and Stuart Webber.
‘Good bye, Canaries. We’ll see you again.’
Norwich have begun their search for Farke’s successor and are set for formal talks with Frank Lampard this week.
The former Chelsea manager, 43, has emerged as an early contender for the position, while recently-sacked Dean Smith is also being considered.

Norwich began holding discussions regarding Farke’s replacement on Sunday with initial enquiries made into Lampard’s interest.
Smith became an option after being axed by Aston Villa on Sunday, though he may prefer to take a break from the game.
Swansea boss Russell Martin – a former Canaries captain who has spoken of wanting to manage Norwich one day – has also been linked.
Norwich have lost eight of 11 Premier League games this season, a start which sparked doubts about Farke’s ability to keep them up, as reported by Sportsmail last week.
Despite beating Brentford, Norwich remain five points from safety.
