The Block: Kirsty Lee Akers and Jesse Anderson on they were so ‘disappointed’ on auction day

They came in second-to-last place on Sunday night’s finale of The Block, despite being firm favourites to win the show for weeks.

And while Kirsty Lee Akers and Jesse Anderson aren’t disappointed with their $301,000 profit, they revealed on Monday that they certainly weren’t impressed with the way the auction went down.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Kirsty, 34, revealed: ‘We weren’t disappointed with the result, we were disappointed with the lead up of it.

Not impressed: The Block stars Kirsty Lee Akers and Jesse Anderson said they were ‘disappointed’ with the way the auction ran during the show’s finale – but are very happy with their $301,000 profit

‘Not knowing the reserves, the reserve being really high in the beginning, then finding out that we were going last in the auction order…

‘It felt like we had everything against us going into it. It was a weird feeling.’

All of the contestants were surprised with the reserve prices this season, with host Scott Cam also admitting he believed they were too high.

The contestants’ disappointment resulted in their reserves eventually being reduced by $100,000 per person – taking Kirsty and Jesse’s from $4.2 to $4.1million.

‘For the last six months, we’ve been sort of under the impression that the price guide was $3.2 to $3.4million, and then they dropped $4.2million on us,’ Jesse added, with Kirsty echoing: ‘It’s just unheard of. It was a big shock to our system.

‘It wasn’t like $100,000 or $200,000 – it was nearly a million dollars. So our opening bid was $3million. Our agent had to work his butt off just to get it up to reserve.

‘Watching that all play out – it was heartbreaking thinking, “this is going to get passed in”.’

But luckily, the whopping house did sell for a cool $4,401,523.67 – leaving the childhood sweethearts with a profit of $301,523.67.

‘A lot of people have sent us messages saying they feel so sorry for us, and that we should have won more. But we’ve won $300,000,’ Kirsty said.

They only placed about Ronnie and Georgia Caceres, who had made the decision for the couple’s huge house to go last in auction.

‘I am really disappointed that we went last,’ Kirsty added. ‘You would never normally put the most expensive house last. We still managed to walk away with a great amount.’

Revealing how they planned to spend their cash, Kirsty said: ‘Obviously we’ve got a mortgage – our mortgage is a bit over $300,000, so that will really help.

‘We definitely need a new car, that’s for sure, and we need to finish renovations on the house. We really need to be smart about it I guess, and try and turn that $300,000 into a $1million.’

Mitch Edwards and Mark McKie were crowned the winners of The Block Fans v Faves on Sunday night.

The Sydney couple made the largest sum over reserve of all five Block houses at Bronte Court at auction, selling their home for $4,044,444 with a profit of $644,444.

Mitch, 59, and Mark, 60, also took home an additional $100,000, taking their total prize money to $744,444, with the stylish pair understandably in complete shock.
