Adele has revealed that adjusting to being a single parent and her divorce was a ‘process’ and ‘exhausting’ in a sneak peak of her upcoming Oprah Winfrey interview.
The Someone Like You songstress, 33, will discuss her split from Simon Konecki and the impact it had on their son Angelo, 9, in the CBS special Adele One Night Only, which is due to air in the US on Sunday and features a chat with the talk show host.
In the teaser clip released on Friday, the star went into detail about what inspired the lyrics for her new song Hold On.

The track’s verse goes as follows: ‘I am such a mess, the harder that I try, I regress, I’m my own worst enemy, right now I truly hate being me.
‘Everyday feels like the road I’m on might just open up and swallow me whole. How do I feel so mighty small when I struggle to feel at all…’
Asking her about the inspiration for the emotional tune, Oprah, 67, pried: ‘Another new song on the album is titled Hold On, the lyrics of this song are so brutally honest, it sounds like you were in the dark, dark, dark hours there.

‘Girl you can write! So what was going on there what was happening?’
Adele responded: ‘Oh thank you. My friends would always say ‘hold on’ when I felt like those lyrics in the verse. It was just exhausting trying to keep going with it.
‘It’s a process the divorce, the process of being a single parent, the process of not seeing your child every single day wasn’t really the plan that I had when I became a mum.

‘The process of arriving for yourself every single day, the process of turning up for yourself every single day and still running a home, running a business.’
She added: ‘So many people will know what I’m talking about and I juggle those things as well and I just sometimes felt like not doing it anymore.
‘And also trying to move forward but with intention, not just trying to get out of it for no reason. It made my feet hurt, walking through all that concrete!’
The singer looked incredible in a slick white suit with bedazzled detailing as she sat in Oprah’s rose garden, similar to the backdrop of Meghan and Harry’s famous interview with the TV icon.
Their chat took place in CBS journalist Gayle King’s back yard.
In the teaser for the show released earlier this week, Adele, who wore an incredible sculpted black gown for the appearance, said: ‘It will look really elegant and then I’ll tell a load of filthy jokes and stand-up, so it’ll be real whiplash!’

The two-hour special, entitled Adele One Night Only, will air on the channel on November 14, five days before the release of her long-awaited fourth album, 30.
Oprah opened saying: ‘Nobody is more compelling with the truth than Adele.’ Adele warned Oprah about her foul-mouthed antics on-stage and joked about her show.
The camera then shot to Gabrielle Union her husband Dwyane Wade and Lizzo before Adele was seen singing Rolling In The Deep and saying: ‘I’m gonna do some old ones for you, I’m gonna do some new ones for you’.
Oprah went on: ‘It’s a very special night, join me when I interview the one and only Adele. Adele then said to the camera: ‘I invite you to join me for one night only’, before she was seen saying to the crowd: ‘How posh is this?’
In a further clip released by People, Oprah said: ‘The concert tonight is a celebration of your biggest hits and the debut of the new songs of 30. You start with Hello, to which Adele said: ‘I always have to start with that because it’s a bit weird to get halfway through and do it. So yeah I’m starting with that’.
Oprah then informed Adele that the music video for Hello had been viewed over 3 billion times, to which she said: ‘3 billion! I didn’t know that! That’s insane’.
The TV legend pointed out that the song means a lot to many of her fans and asked Adele what it meant to her.

She detailed: ‘The show is the first time I’m singing it from where I am now which I think is great. The song to me was the beginning of a time by myself and I hadn’t figured out what it was that I had to do for that…
‘When I wrote it it was an ode to little me and the old me. It’s a song that’s saying “I’m still here. Like Hello! I’m still here”. In every aspect of my life’.
It was first revealed last month that Adele had landed the special, in which she will both perform at the iconic venue as well as chatting to Oprah in a rare and candid chat.

The two-hour event will be broadcast Sunday, November 14 (8:30-10:30 PM, ET/8:00-10:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
The special, which will be filmed in Los Angeles, is billed as: ‘Adele’s first televised wide-ranging conversation about her new album, the stories behind the songs, life after divorce, weight loss and raising her son.’
The show will be produced by Fulwell 73 Productions and Onward Productions in association with Harpo Productions; executive producers are ‘Late Late Show With James Corden’ producer Ben Winston, Adele, her manager Jonathan Dickins and Raj Kapoor.
