Converted Knightsbridge church boasting its own pool room and spa is slashed by £15m to £39.5million

A former Anglican church has dropped in price from £55million to less than £40m after no-one stepped forward to buy it.

St Saviours House, a walking distance from Harrods in London’s Knightsbridge, boasts more than 12,000 square feet with 40-foot ceilings and has its own spa.

But after going on the market for a staggering £55 million in 2019, the property has been reduced in price by an eye-watering £15 million and is now on offer at £39.5 million.

The former church was previously owned by the 80-year-old lyricist behind Les Misérables and Miss Saigon, Alain Boublil.

The Grade II-listed building also has a swimming pool, gym, treatment room, sauna, steam room and a cinema with a bar as well as oak beams, stone pillars, stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings.

It contains seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a striking bronze-and-glass lift shaft surrounded by a stone spiral staircase, linking all the floors.

The church was originally designed by Belgrave Square architect George Basevi in 1838 and built on land which in the year prior was valued at £300.

Estate agent Knight Frank made the church near Knightsbridge, London its property of the week in September 2019, when it was on offer for £55 million

However in 1998, the Diocese of London needed money for urgent repairs and sold the Knightsbridge property for just £1 million after congregation numbers fell.

Agents Knight Frank made the church their property of the week in September 2019, when it was on offer for £55 million.

A blurb on the website then read: ‘While there are countless super-prime homes in London competing for the title of most remarkable property, none are as remarkable, extravagant or unique as St Saviours House – and it’s likely that you would simply walk past it.

Knight Frank went on to describe a drawing room with stylish, ethereal vaulted ceilings 'allowing you to look up to the heavens'
