Baker sends TikTok into meltdown with a VERY simple trick for making a $10 cake stand with Kmart buys

Planter stands and wooden boards are flying off the shelves at Kmart after a baker shared her handy hack for creating a stylish cake stand using the two unlikely items and a hot glue gun.  

Melbourne cake artist, Tigga, said she went to Kmart and picked up a $3.25 hairpin plant stand and a $6 wooden charger plate to make the ‘cheap and awesome cake stand’.  

‘All I did was went into my craft box and got my hot glue gun, squirted some glue on to the top of my stand,’ she said in a TikTok video.

The baker said the glue does not need to be neat as the top of the stand won’t be visible.  

‘I then stuck the stand to my wooden board – you can see it’s sort of sitting in that little cut out alcove bit,’ she said. 

And bob’s your uncle, you’ve got yourself a cake stand for under ten dollars.’

Tigga said she was ‘so obsessed’ with the final result, she made two more and painted them black and pink. 

The video has more than one million views since being posted on TikTok three days ago and lots of comments from impressed users. 

‘Kmart is now sold out of boards and planters,’ a woman joked.

How to make a cake stand 

You will need

Kmart 20cm hairpin planter stand – $3.25

Kmart acacia charging plate – $6

Hot glue gun

Instructions 

With a hot glue gun,  apply glue generously to the top of the planter

Flip the charging plate upside down so the smooth side is facing down 

Stick the planter to the centre of the plate and press down firmly

Wait for the glue to dry and your stand is ready to use 

Some commenters shared the different ways they would use the DIY stand.

‘I did this exact thing years ago with a larger pot stand and cutting board and made a bedside table,’ one woman shared. 

‘You just blew my mind! I’m using them as cheeseboards,’ another commented.  

‘OK I need to do this for my plants. Even though it started as a plant stander, yours is cuter,’ one person said. 

The Melbourne baker is known for her videos showing how she creating stunning decorative cakes and has gained a following of more than 600,000.
