Grandmother, 34, reveals she is mistaken for her daughter’s SISTER

A grandmother who says she is mistaken for her teenage daughter’s sister has revealed how welcoming babies months apart from each other has ‘brought them closer than ever’.

Clare Milner, 34, from Newport, Shropshire, welcomed a one-year-old son, called Hunter, last year, and within months her eldest child, Elisse, 18, fell pregnant with her son, Lucas.

The mother and daughter are often confused as sisters by strangers when they are out and about with Hunter and Lucas, despite Clare actually being a grandmother as well as bringing up her youngest son too.

Despite confessing it was a ‘shock’ when Elisse announced she was pregnant, Clare revealed: ‘Becoming a mum again at a similar time to my daughter has brought us closer together than we have ever been before.’

Clare revealed she fell pregnant with Hunter after a short relationship with his father, whose behaviour changed when it was discovered that they were having a baby.

She added: ‘I decided to leave the relationship and go it alone, for my own sake and the children’s sake.

‘I have three elder children, Elisse, 18, Makenzie, 16 and Macauley, 13. There is an 11 year age gap between Hunter and Macauley so I was worried that he would have no one to grow up and play with.

‘Shortly after I had Hunter, Elisse told me she was pregnant.

‘It was strange at first and came as such a shock because she had always said she didn’t want kids but after the news settled in I thought it would be so nice for Hunter to have someone close in age to grow and play with.

‘As I had been a teenage mum myself, I felt like I could really support Elisse and help her navigate her way through this.

‘I think she is definitely more appreciative of me now that she has a baby of her own.’

Meanwhile she revealed she was accustomed to people offering ‘funny comments’ on her family situation.

She said: ‘I’ve received funny comments all my life since being a young mum, as I had Elisse when I was 16.

‘People would tell me I was too young to be a mum and then when my daughter fell pregnant people were saying I’m too young to be a grandmother.

‘If Elisse and I are out together with Hunter and Lucas, they assume we are sisters rather than mother and daughter.

‘Or people assume that both of the boys are my kids when in fact, one is my son and the other is my grandson.

Meanwhile Clare said she believes Elisse 'appreciates her a lot more' now that she has a young son herself (pictured, Elisse's baby Lucas)

‘People are always questioning why I wanted to start again and have another baby with an 11 year age gap with my other grown-up kids.

‘But it is great fun having a son and a grandson so close in age. They will have a lovely bond and be able to grow up together.

‘I think they’ll have more of a brotherly bond which I am excited to watch develop as they get older.’

Clare and her daughter Elisse have spent more quality time together now that they both have young children because they plan days out with Hunter and Lucas.

She added: ‘I wouldn’t have it any other way.’
