Chelsea fear Ben Chilwell ‘has suffered a serious knee injury and damaged his ACL’

Chelsea fear Ben Chilwell ‘has suffered a serious knee injury and damaged his ACL’ after being forced off against Juventus… with in-form left-back facing an anxious wait for the results of his scan today

  • Ben Chilwell was forced off through injury in Chelsea’s win against Juventus
  • The full-back limped off with a knee issue and is to have a scan on Wednesday
  • A report in The Sun details that it is suspected he will be out with an ACL injury

Ben Chilwell faces missing the remainder of the 2021-22 season with suspected anterior cruciate ligament damage, according to reports.

Chelsea put in a stunning performance to defeat Italian giants Juventus in a 4-0 drubbing at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night but the win was soured by two major injuries to Chilwell and N’Golo Kante.

Chilwell is having a scan on his knee issue on Wednesday but The Sun report the damage is suspected to be to his ACL and would therefore rule him out for the rest of the season.

Chilwell went down in a heap 19 minutes from time and looked to be in real pain before he was helped off the field, limping down the tunnel.

‘It worries me because he was in such a fantastic moment like Reece on the other side,’ boss Thomas Tuchel added.

‘They were in the best shape they could possibly be, so strong, full of confidence and such a lot of quality.’

He added: ‘(Chilwell) was in a lot of pain, now he feels a lot better. We have an examination tomorrow to be more precise.

‘We hope for the best, hopefully we get away fingers crossed with not too bad news.’

Chilwell made a slow start to the season in winning his place but he has become a key component of Tuchel’s league-leading side.

The England full-back has three goals and an assist so far this season having leapfrogged Marcos Alonso to be the primary option on the left.

Chelsea sit top of the Premier League and are also looking ahead to the knockout stages of the Champions League in the new year.

Alonso started the season but with Chilwell consolidating himself in the starting role in recent months any long-term issue for the former Leicester man would represent a huge blow to the Blues.
