Chelsea: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink labels Jorginho ‘arrogant’ after his error led to Man United goal

‘It’s ARROGANCE’: Chelsea star Jorginho criticised by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink for error in miscontrolling long ball which led to Jadon Sancho’s opener for Manchester United

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink slammed Jorginho as ‘arrogant’ following the Blues’ 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday.

Chelsea had to come from a goal down to secure a point after the Italy international played a role in both goals.

Jorginho handed Jadon Sancho the chance to open the scoring in the second-half after failing to deal with a high ball that was sent forwards by Alex Telles.

But the midfielder redeemed himself as he levelled for the hosts from the spot 20 minutes later.

Jorginho attempted to bring down the high ball with his foot with Sancho and Marcus Rashford closing in but his poor touch ultimately sent United’s summer signing in on goal before the winger calmly slipped the ball past Edouard Mendy.

Hasselbaink slammed the ‘silly’ error and said the Ballon d’Or nominee should have headed it clear or passed back to his keeper.

‘He should head it. It’s arrogance. I’ll take it down from the sky and play,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘Two men coming at you, head the ball back. Sancho takes the goal really well.

‘Technically he’s a very good player but he’s not blessed with pace. So he’s never gonna get beyond Sancho.

‘So you don’t take the risk, just head it back have people behind you. Still need one goal to win the match but now it’s a mountain to climb. Silly.’

Chelsea dropped points against the new era United but thankfully for Thomas Tuchel’s side Jorginho’s error did not prove too costly as they remain top of the league, one point ahead of Manchester City.
