Kane, 28, winner of the Premier League’s Golden Boot in three of the last six seasons, has found the net only once in 12 top-flight games but Conte is happy with him and feels there is no alternative.

‘I hope to improve the situation, to improve the confidence of all players. At the moment, honestly, I don’t see this team starting without Harry.’

Spurs beat Brentford 2-0 on Thursday, the first of 10 fixtures in a month. Next is Norwich at home on Saturday and then Rennes, a key game in the Europa Conference League.

Kane has made 90 appearances for club and country since the start of last season.

‘If I wasn’t satisfied with Harry’s performances, I would tell him,’ added Conte. ‘But I am very satisfied. He is playing well and doing fantastic work for the team.’
