Shh! Anti-agers no one but you need know about: What should I ask when choosing a plastic surgeon?

Q I’m 68 and looking for a reputable plastic surgeon to give me the nose I’ve always wanted. How do I go about finding ‘Mr Right’?

A I would heed all these insightful tips I got from consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr Theo Nanidis (tnplasticsurgeon.co.uk). ‘Make sure your prospective surgeon specialises in head and neck, or even better for you, rhinoplasties.

‘Do they (also) work in the NHS? If it’s yes, that’s great: their training is rigorous. Are they a member of BAAPS (the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons)?

‘Yes again? Good. They are bound to stringent codes of conduct. Ask hard questions in your first consultation: How many of these surgeries have they done? What’s been their worst complication?

‘Use your gut instinct. Do you feel comfortable with them, are they truly listening and offering options, or are they rushing you?

‘Ensure you feel the same at your second meeting, after you’ve had a “cooling off” period to think. Ask for full pricing transparency, but do not choose on price or “deals”.

‘Don’t opt for someone who’s part of a large chain of clinics (there’s often a “hard sell”). Research them and their work on websites such as RealSelf, Doctify or iWantGreatCare.

‘If anything feels off, restart the process with another surgeon until you feel 100 per cent secure with your choice!’
