Chelsea ‘make major breakthrough in arranging new deals for defensive duo Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen’… as concerns over Antonio Rudiger’s future remain

  • Chelsea are monitoring the situation regarding their defenders contracts
  • Veteran star Thiago Silva is coming to the end of his Stamford Bridge deal
  • Likewise terms need to be agreed with Danish star Andreas Christensen
  • Reports claim a breakthrough has been made and both players will be tied down

Chelsea have reportedly made solid headway with their plans to get both Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen signed on to new Stamford Bridge deals.

The defensive duo have become key figures under Thomas Tuchel, though each find themselves coming to the end of their contracts in west London.

Now, it is reported that the Premier League side have ‘made a major breakthrough’ in discussions with both stars and renewals now appear to be imminent.

Chelsea are said to be confident of getting Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen tied down

Chelsea took something of a risk with veteran star Silva when taking the 37-year-old on as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain on lucrative terms, but the Brazilian has settled astutely into Premier League life.

As with Silva, Christensen has experienced a similar flourish under Tuchel and now features as a regular name on the Chelsea team-sheet.

The Blues are now ‘increasingly confident’ that both players will be on board next season according to Gianluca Di Marzio, via Metro.

Chelsea hope to agree an extension with Silva in the coming weeks, but ‘resolving Christensen’s future is viewed as the priority for the time being.’

Speaking recently on Christensen’s future, Tuchel told reporters: ‘I said this in the national break, that for me it is a matter of days that we think that we can have good news about Andreas.

‘As I understand it, the club want the same, and so do the coach and player. That is to stay, and that’s why we need the commitment and then we can continue.’

The news will come as reassuring to many Chelsea fans, who expect the club to lose Antonio Rudiger in the summer.

Germany international Rudiger has transformed his fortunes at Stamford to become one of the main men, though is set to be flush with offers in the summer when he becomes a free agent.
