Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has undergone surgery on his hamstring after sustaining an injury during his side’s draw with Brentford earlier this month.

Phillips hobbled off 10 minutes into the second half of Leeds’s 2-2 draw and is believed to have gone under the knife last week.

According to The Athletic, the 26-year-old’s operation was deemed a success, but he is still expected to be out for at least two months.

In a further setback for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, striker Patrick Bamford also hurt himself against Brentford as he ran off to celebrate his dramatic 95th-minute goal.

Bamford – who scored 17 Premier League goals for Leeds last season –  had come off the bench to make his first appearance in almost three months following an ankle injury.

However, the injury he sustained in the closing minutes of the game saw him return to rehab and miss Leeds’ clash with Chelsea on Saturday.

The absences of two of his most influential players will be a major concern for Bielsa, whose side are only six points above the relegation zone ahead of a nightmare run of fixtures.

Leeds are set to take on Manchester City on Tuesday and before meeting with Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa.
