British prospects at the Winter Olympics have sustained a major hit after 2018 bronze medallist Izzy Atkin broke her pelvis competing in the US.

With less than seven weeks until the Games commence in Beijing, the skier, who was considered Britain’s prime medal hope, suffered the injury at a Dew Tour event in Colorado.

In a post on social media, she wrote: ‘Didn’t think I’d be back in a hospital bed so soon but I guess that is just how it goes sometimes.

‘I managed to cap off a fun week of skiing with a broken pelvis.

‘There’s a long and painful recovery ahead but I’m already up and walking (with an old lady walker) and keeping hope alive for the Olympics in February.’ 

Atkins’ slopestyle bronze in Pyeongchang in 2018 was Britain’s first skiing medal at a Winter Olympics.
