A 28-year-old sustainability expert has shared the top three mistakes Australians are making with their rubbish bins. 

Lottie Dalziel has gained popularity online for sharing her tips and tools for how to live a more responsible and environmentally conscious life. 

The first mistake, Lottie says, is putting recyclable rubbish inside a plastic bin bag.

Plastic bin bags are not a recyclable material and belong only inside the red general waste bin.

A suggestion instead is to place recyclables inside a box throughout the day and to empty recyclable materials into the yellow bin all at once.
