If you want the freshest chicken ask for ‘chicken from the back’

Chicken from the back

Sadly KFC isn’t going to spend 20 minutes cooking fresh chicken just for you.

If you want the freshest chicken you’re best bet is to ask for chicken ‘from the back.’

KFC uses a ‘first in, first out policy’ – which means they put their oldest chicken out the front to sell first to limit food waste and keep a streamlined cycle.

By asking for chicken ‘from the back’ – you’re asking for the freshest chicken available.

Why you should order chips with no salt

If you order chips at KFC you’re likely to get the oldest ones with a bit of extra salt on them.

To get a fresh serving, order ‘chips with no salt.’

Chips at KFC are salted immediately after they are pulled from the fryer, meaning they have to cook you new ones if you request no salt.

But this hack means you miss out on KFC’s famous salt mixture.

If you want salty chips go through Drive Thru - like chicken - the freshest chips are out the back

Drive Thru has the freshest chips

If you’re not willing to give up KFC salt just yet, Drive Thru is your best bet at fresh chips.

Most KFC stores will always put their freshest chips in the Drive Thru hotbox and move the leftovers from the previous batch to the restaurant’s hot box.

While there’s only a couple minutes between the two, Drive Thru chips will be hotter and crunchier while restaurant’s will softer and saltier.

KFC has an extra family meal they don’t advertise on menus called the ‘Dinner Box.’

The Dinner Box offers 10 pieces of Original Chicken along with any two large sides for $19.95.

Swap your drink for chips

If you don’t feel like a drink, you can upsize your chips for free instead.

A large chips and burger will usually set you back $10.95, but you can save $2 and order a regular burger combo instead.

A regular burger combo usually comes with a regular chips, burger, and drink but when you swap your drink for a second regular chips you’ll be given a large.

Be nice

If you want a fresh meal and quality service, it makes a big difference to be courteous and polite to staff.

KFC workers almost always go out of their way to ensure customers get decent burgers and fresh chicken if they’re asked nicely.

But customers who are rude are far more likely to receive a cold burger or a flat soft drink.
