Why ITV should take a break from The Holiday: Channel has shown the romantic comedy FIFTY times since 2010 – making up over 100 hours of screen time
It’s a heartwarming romantic comedy which devoted fans love to watch over and over again.
But ITV may have been stretching the point – by showing The Holiday over 50 times in 11 years.
The tale of an American movie trailer producer and a British newspaper columnist swapping houses and finding romance has become a festive favourite since its release in 2006. It tells how Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz, exchanges homes with Iris (Kate Winslet) as they fall for characters played by Jude Law and Jack Black.
Research shows that ITV has screened The Holiday more than 50 times across its channels since 2010, totalling over 100 hours of screen time.
The movie was on again over the festive period this year, with ITV showing it on December 23 and ITV2 on Christmas Eve.

It is believed ITV showed the film a total of four times in 2021 compared to three in 2020 and eight in 2012.
As well as the ITV screenings of The Holiday, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video offer the film to stream and it is also on Sky Cinema channels.
When it was originally released, it was greeted with mixed reviews with some critics calling it predictable. However, it went on to earn more than £160million at the box office.
It has also emerged that ITV showed more than 90 hours of Harry Potter films across its channels in the past year – screening the eight movies a total of 41 times between them.
These included nine broadcasts on ITV, showing each of the films once apart from Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone which was screened twice. The rest of the broadcasts were on ITV2.
